Sport Display Recalibration

ECM Titanium Tuning Tips

In recent years, onboard technology has made significant strides. Modern vehicles are increasingly moving away from analog instrumentation, replacing it with digital displays to manage every function. These screens not only display speed, RPM, and operating temperatures but also integrate advanced navigation systems, drive mode selectors, ambient lighting customization, and, in high-performance models, real-time torque and power values.

This evolution has created a growing need among tuning enthusiasts and professionals who want full control over performance, especially after potential enhancements. Electronic recalibration of digital components in “Sport” driving mode, via the ECU, allows the vehicle’s full potential to be displayed directly from the cabin, meeting the expectations of customers seeking a more immersive and informed driving experience.

How is the modification achieved?

To fully display performance on sport displays, updating both the scale and maximum values, a specific parameter (when available) must be adjusted within the engine control unit (ECU):

There are two main types of calibration maps for these displays. The 6×6 format maps manage the torque scale visible on the screen and are adjusted to align the new torque and power values with the engine’s actual performance.

The single-point (1×1) maps, on the other hand, determine the maximum values shown on the display. Each map corresponds to a specific unit of measurement and requires precise adjustments to ensure accurate representation.

Powergate

Powergate is the new generation of portable control unit programmer for cars and motorcycles, designed to offer every driver a personalized driving experience of their vehicle.

Thanks to a compact design and connection with an intuitive app, Powergate provides a highly customizable and precise vehicle tuning experience.

Example

Recalibrating Sport Display on Toyota Supra E90:

Thanks to the Sport Display calibration maps integrated into the Bosch MG1CS024 ECU driver, found in many BMW models and the iconic Toyota Supra E90, it’s possible to precisely adjust the torque and power values displayed.

Using ECM Titanium, you can:

Before proceeding, it’s essential to understand that both torque and power displays are divided into 8 sections. This segmentation helps in correctly increasing both the maximum values and scale intervals.

1. Modification of single-point 1x1 maps

Increasing maximum torque and power values: To increase maximum torque and power values, it’s necessary to increment units in the corresponding maps. The actual values shown on the display are obtained by multiplying the map value by 8. For example, an increment of 10 in the map results in an 80-unit increase on the display.

2. Modification of 6x6 maps

Display torque values: modifying these maps allows you to align the engine’s performance with what’s displayed on the screen. Simply adjust the values to make them as close as possible to those in the torque limitation maps, thereby optimizing the display of delivered torque on the screen.
