ECM Titanium Case History
The protagonist of this development is the N57D30T0 engine, the evolution of the M57TU2D30. It shares not only the inline-six architecture but also the dimensional characteristics with the latter. Therefore, it has the same bore and stroke measurements and the same displacement, amounting to 2993 cm³. This engine, entirely constructed of aluminum alloy, adopts a twin-turbo system with variable geometry, significantly reducing turbo-lag. Compared to its predecessor, it achieves better thermal efficiency, leading to a 10% performance increase and a 7% reduction in fuel consumption.
Installed in the 5 Series F10, it represents one of the most advanced and high-performing diesel engines in the lineup. This engine offers a balance between power, efficiency, and refinement, making it an excellent choice for a luxury sedan/touring like the 5 Series F10.
In its stock configuration, this 535d boasted 310 hp and 630 Nm, already excellent values allowing the car to move comfortably in any condition without needing to exploit all the available power.
However, the huge potential of this engine is unique, and fully exploiting it with the help of ECM Titanium is the ultimate challenge for a tuning professional.
Focus on technical specifications:
To achieve a fully satisfactory result (without mechanical modifications), the work on the engine management parameters was incredibly meticulous. Dozens of maps on the Bosch EDC17CP45 ECU Driver were modified with the utmost precision, including:
Rail Pressure
Working on the rail pressure parameters can improve fuel atomization, allowing for more complete combustion and therefore greater power. It also ensures better engine response and faster acceleration.
Turbo Pressure
Targeted intervention on increasing the boost pressure provides more air to the engine, improving combustion and overall performance. Additionally, if managed correctly, higher turbo pressure can enhance engine efficiency.
Torque Limiters
Similarly, operating the torque limiters allows you to unlock the full potential of the vehicle and manage its performance according to conditions of use. With these maps it is also possible to adjust the responsiveness of the accelerator pedal, increasing driving pleasure.
Speed Limiters
By modifying these maps, it was possible to unlock the 250 km/h limitation, increasing the car’s maximum speed.
Sport Display
To show and view the new parameters, the indicators on the navigator display have been adjusted to the “Sport” mode.
After this intervention, the car’s nature changed radically, recording astonishing power and torque values of:
Numbers worthy of its extreme version, the M550d.
Contributing to this development is the advanced cooling system, which includes a separate system for the oil and the turbocharger, ensuring optimal operating temperatures and improving engine reliability.
